Sports medicine, is a field specialized in dealing with athletic injury, prevention and return to sport. Athletes in every sport require a specific type of rehabilitation, tailored to their sport.

Extra education in sports injuries, orthopaedics, radiology, psychology and rehabilitation alongside many hours of field coverage and hospital rounds are usually required to get this designation.

Diagnosing a condition through history and orthopedic examinations, using diagnostic ultrasound and imaging modalities such as x-ray and MRI, will assist the practitioner in choosing the appropriate treatment for that individual.

Treatments such as medications, exercise prescription, manual therapy, injections and referral to other specialists are to be expected.

Our sports and exercise medicine physician will refer you to other disciplines such as physiotherapist, chiropractors, massage therapist and kinesiologist when required.
