CHIROPRACTIC

Doctors of Chiropractic are experts in neuromusculoskeletal conditions and pathology. With 8 years of post secondary education in pathology, radiology, neuroanatomy, physiology, orthopedic, nutrition and exercise and rehabilitative sciences; chiropractors can diagnose and treat many neuromusculoskeletal conditions.

Chiropractors use a variety of different modalities and tools when treating patients. Electrical modalities, such as ultrasound and TENS units, exercise prescription, custom made orthotics, soft tissue techniques and manipulation are just to name a few. Spinal manipulative therapy or the adjustment of the spine and extremities is a manual technique, which uses high velocity low amplitude thrust to the effected joint in order to increase mobility and decrease pain.

Research supports the utilization of this technique, followed by a thorough orthopedic and neurological examination of the patient. Being one of the most effective treatments for an acute mechanical lower back pain, an adjustment is now recommended by the American College of Physicians as a primary treatment to restore motion, decrease pain and increase function.

Chiropractors treat spinal or axial conditions as well as extremity conditions such as knee, shoulder, elbow and foot conditions and pathology.
