A Sports Specialist Chiropractor is a Chiropractor who finishes 4 years of fellowship in sports sciences after a doctoral degree in chiropractic. The Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences is the national organizing body for Sports Chiropractic.
Advanced courses such as advanced imaging, sports psychology, sports nutrition, sports injury management and rehabilitation, along side 1000 hours of field work and hospital rounds are only a few examples of this rigorous fellowship.
Sports Specialists will diagnose and treat any musculoskeletal conditions. Using evidenced based examination procedures such as orthopaedic and neurological examinations and when required, imaging modalities such as diagnostic ultrasound, x-ray and MRI can assist the doctor when making a diagnosis.
Conservative management of an injury or condition in the majority of cases is recommended prior to any invasive procedure.
Conservative management such as therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, joint manipulation, taping, modalities such as shockwave therapy, laser and ultrasound, alongside load modification and education are just a few examples.
If your injury happened in a car accident — even if you’re an athlete — your sport chiropractic care may be fully covered by ICBC.
