Expert Care in Vancouver
Shockwave therapy — which is also known as extracorporeal shockwave therapy — is administered to a tendon or muscle through the skin with a small, handheld device that’s similar to an ultrasound. It will increase circulation, break down calcifications and scar tissues (calcific tendinopathy) and stimulate cells that generate new connective tissues. Shockwave is beneficial for chronic tendon injuries and irritations such as tennis elbow, plantar fasciopathy, Achilles tendinopathy and rotator cuff pain.
Except some occasional soreness post treatment, there are no long term reported side effects from the shockwave therapy and most clients are encouraged to exercises and continue with their activity of daily living post treatments. The beneficial effects of shockwave is usually felt after 1-2 treatments and depending on the injury and conditions, shockwave therapy can be prescribed for up to 6 consecutive weeks. Shockwave therapy is administrated by our Chiropractors and Physiotherapists, after an initial visit to make sure it is the right therapy for you and your condition.
